The southwest corner view of the observatory shows the rails for the roll-off roof. The rails and supports are made of welded steel set in concrete. Gravity rolls the roof off the observing area until a stop is reached. A 12V winch pulls the roof back up.
The left side of the observing room roof is stationary, providing a sheltered area for a workbench with tools, star charts, and books.
