Total Solar Eclipse - Chile
2 July 2019

Chromosphere Composite

This composite image emphasizes the chromosphere/prominences and the inner corona for the 2019 eclipse. The composite was created from one image taken near 2nd contact, and one taken near 3rd contact to maximize the view of the chromosphere near the edge of the sun. As my friend Greg points out, it's what we would have seen if the moon had been a little farther away (smaller). That would have made a very short eclipse, so I'm OK with having to put a composite together instead!
