Comet 17P/Holmes Changes in November-December 2007

This set of images shows the development of Comet 17P/Holmes over a few weeks in November-December 2007 (the full-moon weekend of Nov. 24-25 was skipped).

While the nature of the film media and digital post-processing preclude serious measurements, the expansion of the central dust coma, weakening of the fluorescent gas shell, and disconnection and disappearance of the blue ion tail are apparent.
