Transit of Mercury - 15 Nov. 1999

Double Transit!   Above, a lucky shot catches a jet crossing the sun at the same time Mercury is also crossing the sun (small black dot at top right). This photo was taken at 1/60 sec. on Fuji Velvia 50 slide film.

At left is a sequence showing the transit. The last four frames are 2.5 minutes apart. All others are 5 minutes apart. Each frame is 1/125 sec. on Fuji Velvia 50 slide film, taken through a Pronto scope with a 2x teleconverter, but the frames vary in quality because these were shot through high clouds. These were taken from the parking lot of the Las Vegas Convention center where I was attending the annual Comdex convention.
