Solar Eclipse Sequence

This composite image, created from 11 separate frames, shows the progression of the eclipse from upper left to lower right at approximately 10 minute intervals. The bright spot on some of the images of the solar disk are due to internal reflections in the optics. The orange color of the sun in the partial phase images are a result of the filter used (Type III photographic glass filter from Thousand Oaks). No filter was used for the image taken during totality.

Exposures for the partial phases were 1/250 sec. on Fuji Velvia 100 slide film, while the total phase image was 1/250 sec. on Ektachrome 400 slide film. A Televue Pronto 70mm refractor, field flattener, and 2x teleconverter was used for an effective 1040 mm focal length at about f/14.
