2008 Total Solar Eclipse from the Gobi Desert (Northern China)

This sequence was constructed from crops of frames shot on 35mm film (1/250 sec. on Fuji Velvia slide film). These are telescopic shots taken through a Borg 4" refractor with a 2x teleconverter (1280mm focal length). The actual times between frames ranged from a few seconds to a minimum of about 1.2 seconds.

Bailey's beads (parts of the sun's surface seen between mountain peaks on the moon) were enhanced due to the fact that our observing site was closer to the edge of the moon's shadow than in previous eclipses.
